Abstract
Men who have sex with men (MSM) worldwide are among the most vulnerable groups that are at high risk for HIV infection. Between 1989 and 1992, three nationwide studies found that 8 to 16 of university students in Beijing and Shanghai had had various homosexual experiences (Zhang, 2003), and another large-scale study from 1998 to 2001 showed that 10 to 15 of male adults reported homosexual behavior (Zhang, 2003). Based on the data from these studies, the number of homosexuals in China is estimated to be between 30 and 48 million (Li, 1998).
