Abstract
Behavioural counselling is based mainly on the theoretical principles described in Chapter 13, although counsellors do not have to have to limit themselves to methods deriving from these and are at liberty to use other methods that have been proved effective. Counselling also depends on whether learning based on classical and operant conditioning are paramount, or whether cognitive change is emphasised too.
