Abstract

The Ukrainian higher education system clearly has a potentially important role to play in the processes of democratic transition and the development of a market economy. Indeed, the reform of the system began in the immediate aftermath of the declaration of independence in 1991, with the following principal goals: to develop a national system of education; to ensure that the higher education system be adapted to suit the demands of a market economy; to create the conditions for the emergence of a non-state higher education sector; to place emphasis on the development of the humanitarian aspect of higher education studies; to promote the broader introduction of computers in the process of study in higher education.
