La valvola aortica è una valvola costituita da 3 lembi dall’aspetto di mezza luna (da cui la definizione “semilunari”). Al contrario della valvola mitrale, a livello della valvola aortica non si trova un vero anello fibroso, ma una struttura complessa costituita dalla radice aortica, caratterizzata dai seni coronarici, la porzione miocardica del ventricolo sinistro, e i trigoni fibrosi posti tra i lembi. Gli osti delle arterie coronarie sono situati a livello dei seni aortici.
