Summary
Improved survival after intestinal transplantation mainly due to both patient condition at the time of transplantation and greater center experience, made small-bowel transplantation an attractive prospect for patients with complications on TPN and eventually became an alternative to conservative treatment of intestinal failure. Patient selection and lifelong surveillance are crucial to the long-term results.
