Abstract
Metalation reactions of pyrrole and indolizine are reviewed. While the use of pyrrole-based materials in the Suzuki reaction is increasingly popular, several examples of other palladium-catalyzed reactions, such as Negishi, Stille, Sonogashira, and Heck couplings, are included. In addition to these palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, direct proton abstraction, directed metalation, and halogen–metal exchange are discussed. Applications of these reactions to synthesis of pyrrole natural products and other interesting materials such as BODIPY dyes are summarized.
