Abstract
Contemporary architecture in France, at least visually, remains deeply indebted to the representational tendencies of modernism. Perhaps the tradition endures because France was the site of so many of the major developments in architecture during the early part of the least century. Or could it be that the recognisable look of the country’s architecture has more to do with the insularity of its architectural profession, which has prevented a more systematic contamination of the discipline by other styles and approaches?
