Abstract

In this paper, an object oriented development environment, OVOPS, for protocol implementation is described. Object oriented tools have been gaining ground quite slowly in the field of protocol engineering. By providing special support for this particular branch of software engineering in the form of an implementation framework, together with a class library, the deployment of new techniques can be made easier. Description of the use of OVOPS to implement 2 non-trivial protocol stacks (TCAP and GSM BTS protocols) illustrates the methods and practices available in this environment.
