Abstract

In recent years the design of modern parallel systems is changing due to the avail- ability of new interconnection technologies and commodity components (e.g., switches/routers, links, adapters). Should the researchers working in the area of designing high-performance communication subsystems continue to solve the ‘traditional’ problems? Which of these existing problems continue to merit at- tention and have the potential to provide substantial performance gains in the context of modern parallel systems? What are the ‘new’ problems and challenges which the community will be facing in the next five years?
