Abstract

This paper introduces the two Eurescom projects under the name IMS1 (Integrated Multimedia Services at about 1 Mbit/s) dealing with the specification and development of a general multimedia retrieval service (including VOD) for residential and business users over public networks. Laboratory demonstrator has been specified and developed. A full configuration using terminal and server with public network has been set up. A number of applications have been developed. Technical solutions for the Commercial Service have been investigated to guide the decision on the technical solutions to be implemented in the Laboratory Demonstrator.The technical choices made in the project are introduced in this paper.
