Design and performance of an 8-dimensional modulation scheme
The demand for higher bandwidth and power efficiencies in digital communication makes multidimensional modulation schemes increasingly attractive. In this paper we introduce one such scheme, called 8D-4P2C (for 8 Dimensions, 4 Pulses, and 2 Carriers). This scheme has a compact spectrum and is easily implementable. Moreover, it is amenable to a simplified detection scheme with a moderate loss of efficiency with respect to optimum demodulation. In this paper we show how the parameters of this scheme may be chosen in order to improve the performance of the suboptimum detection scheme. Its performance proves its attractiveness for digital radio systems.
