Abstract
There is a strong astrophysical need for surveying the entire sky and imaging individual sources at frequencies between ~1 and ~30 MHz, a frequency range over which the Earth's ionosphere transmits poorly or not at all. High resolution, high sensitivity observations would open a new window in the electromagnetic spectrum for astronomical investigations and bring astronomy to the fundamental physical limit below which the Milky Way becomes optically thick over relatively short path lengths due to diffuse free-free absorption. We discuss here the scientific questions and initial instrumental concepts for a space mission to carry out such work by combining low cost and low complexity with high productivity of new scientific results.
