How can educational software survive current hardware
We report about experiences gained when transferring an existing major database of educational software (courseware) to new computer systems. It is shown in particular that fairly different execution environments can help to make better use of the big effort invested into good courseware. We also derive some requirements for future authoring and execution systems. Our insights are exemplified by the COSTOC-library of computer science courses which contains already several hundreds of so called presentation type lessons and which is now available on a variety of computers like the IBM PC and the Macintosh II.
