Abstract
Fusion and transfer cross sections have been measured for the 14N and 16O + 59Co systems at near and sub-barrier energies. There is no larger enhancement of the sub-barrier fusion for the system, which has a large transfer cross section, than for the system with no measurable transfer cross section. The value of the effective deformation parameter of the target which fit the fusion excitation functions is 20% higher than the predicted one. The fusion enhancement can be explained by the CCFUS co de through the coupling of transfer channels, but there is a need for a better understanding of the form factors used.
