Abstract
The semantics of relative comparisons principally involves a comparison between the degrees of two objects. The taskof the interpretation process for degrees is to determine the pair of compared objects and to construct the proper comparison relation between the relevant degrees adjoined to them. Establishing this comparison relation often requires the reconstruction of semantic material that did not appear on the surface of the utterance and, thus, could not be made available through the semantic interpretation. For instance, the meaning of an utterance like (5.1a) must be reconstructed to be similar to the meaning of the paraphrase in (5.1b).
