Quantum Hall Effect: Macroscopic and Mesoscopic Electron Transport

  • Chapter

High Magnetic Fields

Part of the book series: Lecture Notes in Physics ((LNP,volume 595))

Abstract

We give here an introduction to the Integer and the Fractional Quantum Hall Effect. Some of the fascinating transport properties of macroscopic samples in this regime are reviewed. Then, the mesoscopic electronic transport at the edge of a quantum Hall sample is described. In particular, the Luttinger liquid physics of fractional edges is discussed.
