Abstract
Technological advances within the field of automation of power plant (electrical or nuclear) have led to the increasing need for decision support systems to be developed. This coincides with the increasing use of web based technologies in the construction of such applications in a plethora of different areas. The aim of this paper is to describe the application of intelligent systems to data obtained from the electrical and nuclear industry groups, using a web-oriented environment. The first stage of the work has been knowledge management, which is a basic requirement in order to obtain the expertise to be entered into the system under construction. The knowledge management stage produces a knowledge base, which consists of three different units: a document roadmap, where cross-references to the documentation system can be found; a knowledge model, which containing a description of the domain and its set of rules; and a case base, where structured information on historical solved cases is stored. The system is completed with a friendly User Interface. This takes the form of a web environment where the user is able to interact with the system in order to initiate a search into the information system, and to obtain the results of the query.
