X-ray Spectromicroscopy and Applications to Magnetic Materials

Abstract

The advent of third generation sources made it possible to use synchrotron radiation spectroscopy techniques with high lateral resolution. In particular, x-ray absorption and photoemission spectroscopy can be employed to study the electronic and magnetic properties of matter with sub-micron resolution, opening very interesting opportunities in the study of magnetic materials. In this contribution, a description of the various possible technical approaches to spectromicroscopy is outlined, and the main results obtained in the domain of magnetic imaging are presented.
