Abstract

Walls are present in most flows, such as in pipes, rivers, vehicles, etc., and they profoundly in.uence turbulence.Wall-bounded turbulent flows are of prime technological importance, but they are also physically very interesting. We shall see that many issues in them are still not understood, and that they differ in many aspects from isotropic and homogeneous flows. They are perhaps the last area in ‘classical’ incompressible turbulence in which there are still open questions about basic physical mechanisms.
