Abstract

In this chapter we will present a new approach for the design of a workflow, one of the main contributions of this monograph. The approach is product-based, which means that the characteristics of the product are pivotal for determining the structure of the workflow. It is in some sense similar to the approach used in manufacturing, where the Bill-of-Material of a product is used to arrange a production line. It is different from traditional workflow design approaches, which take an existing workflow as starting point and change it incrementally.
