Abstract

Every biome on the globe contains characteristic growth forms, for example, large trees with big leaves in the tropics and little shrubs with small leaves in the desert. In most angiosperms, the anatomical structure reflects morphological adaptations (Baas and Schweingruber 1987). Such adaptations do not exist in conifers, in angiosperms with successive cambia and in climbing plants. In the following, cross-sections of angiosperm wood are presented.
