Zusammenfassung
Gastrointestinale Stromatumoren (GIST), Leiomyosarkome (LMS) und Leiomyome (LM) sind nichtepitheliale mesenchymale Tumoren, die hauptsächlich im GI-Trakt vorkommen [Miettinen 1999]. Sie kommen am häufigsten im Magen (60%) und proximalen Dünndarm (30%) vor, können allerdings auch in jedem Teil des GI-Trakts vorkommen, der Muskulatur in der Darmwand enthält sowie sehr selten auch im Omentum und Peritoneum. GIST bestehen zu 70% aus Spindelzellen, zu 30% aus Epitheloidzellen [Miettinen 1999].
10–30% der GIST sind maligne und führen zu intraabdomineller Ausbreitung und Lebermetastasen. Diese Tumoren wurden früher als benigne angesehen. Es ist jedoch in der Zwischenzeit klar, dass die Histologie nicht notwendigerweise Benignität anzeigt. GIST <2 cm können rezidivieren und metastasieren trotz der anscheinend blanden histologischen Kriterien.
