Zusammenfassung

Die Intensivmedizin gilt häufig noch — auch unter Internisten — als „Lebensrettungsmedizin“, die primär dazu dienen soll, für den Patienten akut bedrohliche Störungen der Vitalfunktionen zu beseitigen. Diese Aufgabe ist auch unbestritten sehr wichtig.

Aber internistische Intensivmedizin muss mehr sein! Neben der Beseitigung akut bedrohlicher Störungen der Vitalfunktionen bei einem kritisch kranken internistischen Patienten muss auch die Grundkrankheit während der Intensivphase adäquat behandelt werden: Dies bedeutet nicht nur Fortführung der laufenden, vor der Übernahme auf die Intensivstation begonnenen internistischen Behandlung, sondern auch Eingehen auf die intensivmedizinische Phase einer internistischen Erkrankung.

„Lebensrettungsmedizin“ und „intensiv-internistische“ Betreuung unserer Patienten müssen Hand in Hand gehen und können nicht parallel und abgekoppelt voneinander praktiziert werden. Die internistische Intensivmedizin ist ein Teil der Inneren Medizin.

Für uns Internisten ist dies Chance, aber auch Verpflichtung zugleich!
