Abstract

Studies of external galaxies are hindered by the fact that 20–25% of the sky lies in the “zone of avoidance” where galaxies are hidden by the Galactic disk. Dr. Frank J. Kerr and I have conducted a pilot survey at 21 cm to determine the ease with which galaxies may be discovered behind the Milky Way.
