Abstract

Features concerning DB technology in the R&D Programme ESPRIT are highlighted, both in a perspective way (by looking at ESPRIT 1 projects) and in a prospective way (by looking at the ESPRIT 2 WorkPorgramme).

Then, the ESPRIT Programme is positioned in a global context, including other R&D Programmes from Europe, USA & Japan.

Finally, a provocative discussion about the different approaches taken is opened as conclusion...
