Energetic winds from low mass young stellar objects

The wind properties from low mass young stellar objects, including deeply embedded infrared sources, classical T Tauri stars and weak emission pre-main sequence stars (“naked” T Tauri stars) are reviewed. Wind diagnostics for these objects are described and wind properties such as ubiquity, morphology, and energetics are compared. Energetic winds are found only among those objects for which there is evidence for circumstellar disks. We offer the hypothesis that the presence of energetic winds and opaque circumstellar disks are linked, and that accretion of material from the disk may be the ultimate powering source for the wind.
