4 Concurrent programming

Abstract

There is as yet little reported experience of using Ada to program distributed applications. No clear view has emerged on the balance of advantage between the two approaches discussed above — the distribution of a single Ada program, and the distribution of a set of Ada programs. Since the latter approach can be tailored to build on existing distributed operating systems, it can perhaps be expected to dominate, for the short term at least. To permit fault-tolerant programming in Ada some modification of the language seems necessary.
