Phase space calculations of composite particle production
In order to study complex reactions such as those encountered in nuclear heavy ion physics, reaction theory must be re-expressed in terms of the density operator. Exact expressions relating inclusive production cross sections to scattering solutions of the density operator have been derived. When these are applied to various dynamical approximations of the density operator, a simple, useful, and physically intuitive picture of production as seen in classical phase space emerges. These methods should also be useful in molecular dynamics.
