Abstract
We present spectropolarimetric observations of a Orionis and use these data to model the polarigenic mechanism operating in cool giants and supergiants. We also present high resolution CCD spectropolarimetry of VY Canis Majoris, a cool, massive object embedded in a complex nebulosity. Finally, we discuss the diagnostic power of measurements of this type and the similarities and differences between the wavelength dependence of the polarization of normal cool stars and that of VY CMa.
