Part of the Lecture Notes in Physics book series (LNP, volume 221)

A short survey of direct photon and lepton pair production in high energy collisions is given. It addresses both the high- pT and low pT regime, relates the phenomenology in hadron-hadron collisions to the expectations in nucleus-nucleus collisions for the case of a transient quark-gluon plasma, and contains also some discussion of the experimental techniques involved.
