Abstract
In the first section of this chapter we start from the general non-relativistic Hamilton operator of solid-state physics to derive the Hamilton operator for the purely electronic problem. There, the electrons are moving in the static, perfectly periodic lattice potential of the ions. This approximation is not crucial to the Mott transition since it is driven by electron-electron interactions.
