Fusion with polarized heavy ions

Abstract

The influence of rank 2 -tensorpolarization of deformed heavy ions on the fusion process is discussed in terms of a semiclassical model approach and in terms of coupled channel calculations. These models are applied to the fusion of polarized \(^{23} \overrightarrow {Na}\)with 48Ti. First data on this system, measured with the source for polarized heavy ions in Heidelberg, are presented. The energy dependence of the experimental analyzing power T 20 fus is well described by both models.
