Electron diffraction charge density wave studies in the chalcogenide compounds (MX4)nI

Abstract

We report the observations by electron diffraction of two different structural behaviours in chalcogenide compounds (MX4)nI. The first, in (TaSe4)2I and (NbSe4)10/3I corresponds to a one-dimensional conductor inducing a Peierls transition associated with a resistivity anomaly appearing at low temperature. The second behaviour observed concerns (TaSe4) I and (NbSe4)3I which show a space group change determined by the convergent Beam method at about 200 K and 280 K respectively.
