Cross polarization — magic angle spinning NMR studies of carbohydrates and aromatic polymers

Abstract

The aim of the review is to present the application of cross polarization-magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) C-13 NMR spectroscopy to the characterization of solid state polymers. The review covers carbohydrates, synthetic aromatic polymers, lignins, humic acid and humins, peat and fossil fuels. The following experimental topics are discussed: basic theory, pulse techniques, chemical shifts and relaxation data, and quantitative evaluation of solid-state spectra.
