Interfacial adsorption in multi-state models

Abstract

A review on interfacial adsorption in two-dimensional multistate models is presented including q-state Potts models, the Blume-Capel model and the three-state chiral clock model: New critical properties are found using Monte Carlo techniques as well as scaling and analytic arguments; the occurence of non-boundary states at the interface provides the clue to suggest a SOS (or Müller-Hartmann and Zittartz)-type approximation of the interface free energy to map phase diagrams of two-dimensional three-state models. - In realistic models for chemisorbed monolayers interfacial adsorption can be observed at domain boundaries in (3×1) phases.
