Abstract
Investigations on the change of the electronic bandstructure due to the cubic-rhombohedral phase transition in IV–VI compounds are reviewed with special emphasis on the PbGeTe system. Data on magnetooptical intra and interband transitions yield precise information on the phase transition and are analysed with a k.p model developed by Mitchell and Wallis for the Oh-phase and by Bangert for the C3v-phase.
