Abstract

Stored at room temperature or heat treated for some time n-type HgCdTe crystals become p-type. It is shown that this instability is accompanied by dramatic changes in transport properties and lifetime. Hg vacancies are causing these changes, and an acceptor with an energy level of about 5 meV above the valence band was identified.[/Ab]
