11. Impurities and Resonant States

For zinc blende small gap semiconductors the effects of pressure on energies of impurity bound states and energy and width of the resonant states have been compared with two theoretical models: Hydrogenic and Koster-Slater. Substantial discrepancy between theory and experiment is observed. The main difficulty is due to very limited knowledge, both theoretical and experimental about the impurity lattice coupling and lattice relaxation. Application of high magnetic field in pressure spectroscopy is discussed; magnetic freezeout into hydrogenic and strongly localized states and interaction between impurity states associated with non equivalent minima have been observed.
