Electrical transport and magnetic properties of MAs3 (M = Ca,Sr,Eu,Ba), α- and β-EuP3 and their alloys

Abstract

The triarsenides and triphosphides of the divalent metals Ca,Sr,Eu and Ba form a new class of narrow gap materials. CaAs3,BaAs3,α- and β-EuP3 are found to be small gap semiconductors, while SrAs3 and EuAs3 are semimetals. β-EuP3 and EuAs3 undergo magnetic phase transitions at around 10 K. We have investigated these transitions by electrical conductivity, specific heat, magnetic susceptibility and Mößbauer measurements.
