Direct mechanism in knockout reactions with real and virtual photons

Part of the Lecture Notes in Physics book series (LNP, volume 137)

The single nucleon knockout mechanism is revisited in order to clarify unsatisfactory results concerning the single particle response of finite nuclei. The central role of the spectral density in the direct mechanism is discussed in terms of a recently derived equation for the related spectroscopic amplitudes. The results of a careful analysis of nucleon knockout reactions both with real and virtual photons are presented.
