Numerical integration of the Euler-equations for three-dimensional unsteady flows

An extending of the well known method of characteristics is given for the treatment of three-dimensional time-dependent gasdynamical flows without discontinuities. This method is compared with a difference scheme based on the method of fractional steps. The unsteady flow of an ideal gas through a nozzle is computed numerically.
