Abstract
At present, there are many ways which visitors can obtain hotel information from the Internet. In particular, search engines are widely used in online information retrieval. When using search engines to search for information, users usually do not have enough prior knowledge about the domain or URLs for specific hotels. In spite of the growing importance of using search engines for online information search, the existing tourism and hospitality literature has a limited amount, if any, of published articles that examined the optimization of hotel websites. This paper reports on a study that attempted to find the appearance of hotel websites on popular search engines with English and Chinese interface by simple queries searching techniques. Empirical evidence did not show the superiority of any special hotel class. Suggestions and future research possibilities are also offered at the end of this paper.
