Résumé
L’évaluation des aptitudes à la reprise de la conduite automobile chez des sujets victimes d’un accident vasculaire cérébral ou d’un traumatisme cranio-encéphalique grave a fait l’objet d’une littérature abondante. Elle n’est pas sans poser un certain nombre de problèmes méthodologiques qui font qu’aucune évaluation stéréotypée ne peut être transposée d’une équipe à une autre. L’évaluation en situation réelle est et restera la meilleure des expertises, car réalisée dans des conditions écologiques. Il n’en demeure pas moins que le bilan cognitif, même s’il est exempt d’une bonne valeur prédictive, a le mérite d’asseoir l’éventuel refus formulé au patient sur une étude objective, codifiée. Certes, l’erreur est possible et c’est en général au détriment du patient qu’elle s’exprime, eu égard à l’enjeu de sécurité pour le patient et son entourage et à la responsabilité qui incombe au médecin prescripteur de la commission médicale, ainsi qu’à celle du médecin rééducateur, qui doit inscrire sa démarche dans un devoir d’information et de pédagogie des risques.
