Abstract

The anterior ankle contains several osseous, soft tissue, tendinous, and neurovascular anatomic structures, which may be affected in the clinical context of anterior ankle pain. A plethora of pathologies including bone and soft tissue neoplasms, ligamentous or osseous trauma and overuse injuries, inflammatory conditions, as well as other distinct entities can cause anterior ankle pain. Pain may also be referred from other parts of the ankle. A thorough radiological assessment supported by a sound clinical history is necessary to achieve the correct diagnosis and plan management.
