Abstract

Stereotactic radiosurgery has treated depression, anxiety, anorexia nervosa, and aggression in severely ill, treatment-refractory patients (Leksell and Herner 1995). Noninvasive radiosurgical procedures were designed to emulate the results of invasive, lesion-based procedures such as stereotactic cingulotomy and anterior capsulotomy. Frequently, target volumes are not specified, but may be inferred from the collimator size (e.g., one 4 mm isocenter corresponds with approximately 34 mm3) typically with specified dose delivered to the 50% isodose line.
