Abstract

An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is a benign bone lesion that is frequently managed by surgical curettage to minimize treatment-associated morbidities. Local recurrence occurs in approximately 20% of patients after intralesional curettage (Mankin et al. 2005). En bloc resection and radiotherapy are used to reduce recurrences. Resolution of the lesion is progressive and delayed when radiation is used. Lower doses are suggested by the recent literature and seem indicated since they may lower the long-term risk of carcinogenesis.
