Abstract

There are many different approaches to incentivize radiologists and physicians in general and in particular to adhere to value-based imaging/medicine. These can be divided roughly into nonfinancial and financial incentives. Deciding which approach to take depends in large part on the goals of decision makers. Payment methods are an important way to create financial incentives for health professionals. Different methods—fee-for-service payments, bundled payments, and pay-for-performance schemes, explained throughout this chapter—create different incentives, some of which can lead to unintended or undesired consequences.
