Abstract

Automated tools are crucial for managing the emerging large-scale complex and heterogeneous networks to ensure that networks remain healthy and available. In this paper, we first point out deficiencies in current network management tools and methodologies and then advocate the use of database technology to ameliorate these deficiencies and propose a generic architecture for network management on large-scale networks. We also identify a number of of database research problems that need to be solved before database technology can be successfully integrated into network management.
