Abstract
What strikes the viewer upon entering the world of Brazilian album covers, after looking at three decades of Spanish-language music packaging, is just how different and refreshing this aesthetic can be. Yes, there are some similarities: a constant struggle with the idea of the exotic; the use of comic book styles and narrative photography; psychedelia; and portraiture. Yet there is always something peculiarly Brazilian at play, not the least of which are the markers of political, historical, artistic, and cultural difference. The color schemes, dimensions—even the paper stock and printing—are different too.
