Microwave Permeability of Magnetic Films

  • Chapter

Abstract

Microwave properties of magnetic materials have been under intensive study over 50 years. The results obtained have been summarized in a number of monographs (see, e. g., Soohoo, 1985; Vittoria, 1993). Recently, the interest to these properties renewed. This is mainly due to the necessity of developing novel high-speed magnetic recording devices (Saito, 1990; Stinnett et al., 1998). To be used as magnetic recording head sensors, it is necessary for a magnetic material to have the largest possible permeability values at frequencies of hundreds of MHz and above. Such materials can be also useful in a number of other applications, for a brief review see the end of this chapter.
